Parmalee is following up the success of its debut country album "Feels Like Carolina" with a new single that is destined to be another #1 hit for the four Carolina boys. The single "Roots" was released on Friday, April 29, 2016, to overwhelmingly positive reaction. Apple Music even put "Roots" on its Best of the Week playlist! You can get it now on iTunes.
Today "Roots" officially hits country radio, even though about a dozen stations jumped the gun and added it early. Make sure to request "Roots" on all your favorite stations and let's see how fast this song soars up the radio charts!
Here's the video, shot during their homecoming concert at East Carolina University last year! Enjoy!
2015 is shaping up to be another great year for Parmalee. Their fourth single off their Stoney Creek debut "Feels Like Carolina" -- "Already Callin' You Mine" -- has been steadily moving up the charts and just cracked the Top 20 with no signs of slowing. The "hooky uptempo love song" has been a fan favorite at concerts and has proved to be popular with country radio listeners. If it follows the trajectory of past hits like "Carolina" and "Close Your Eyes," it still has a ways to go!
Country Weekly spotlighted the band in this week's issue. Journalist Tammy Ragusa sat down with the band and talked about that fateful September evening that almost changed everything. They talk about the shooting that nearly cost their drummer his life and how through support and perseverance they came back from the abyss stronger and more determined. Check out the article here.
This past September, the band hit New York city where they were featured on the TODAY show -- the first band to play in their new studio -- and on MLB Central. Check out their TODAY SHOW appearance here and their visit with MLB Central here. They also got the news that their hit single "Carolina" had hit platinum status!
The band is planning a homecoming at its alma mater, East Carolina University, this holiday season. They are set to play the 8,000-seat Minges Colseum for the biggest party yet and you can win tickets by entering the contest here For more information on the FEELS LIKE CAROLINA HOMECOMING, visit: http://www.parmalee.com/feels-like-carolina-homecoming/
Parmalee has a new single starting its climb up the country music charts - Close Your Eyes. The soulful, sexy ballad was penned by Trent Tomlinson, Adam Craig and Shane Minor.
It has been a favorite track on the band's Stoney Creek Records debut "Feels Like Carolina" and garnered some early notice. Before it was released as the bands follow up to their #1 smash Carolina, country music reviewers took note of this memorable track:
The guys next single just released to radio is “Close Your Eyes” This
song captivated me from the get go!! Matt does a fantastic job of
portraying the emotion of the song! Very subtle and sexy – might be my
favorite Parmalee song!! The song is well written as it sets the setting
for a the “perfect” romantic night ~ Start requesting it – I certainly
see another #1 coming with this one, and I bet it climbs there pretty
quickly. - America's Country

“Close Your Eyes” is one of
my favorite songs on the record. It has that easy to slip into groove similar
to a Florida Georgia Line song
or Cole Swindell’s “Chillin’ It.” “Hey baby
‘fore the night gets any older/Lean your pretty self over here a little
closer/I need to hold ya/I wanna show ya/what you don’t wanna miss.”
Definitely sounds like a radio hit. - Got Country Online

A solid love song. Nice lyrics, mellow melodies, and those vocals that I
like make this song a standout. Score: 9 - PlaybackSTL
Got Country Online had the first stand-alone review of the single and they were blown away:
Parmalee is back with a new single titled “Close Your Eyes.”
This single definitely showcases the vocals of the band as a whole, it proves
how great they sound together and just how great they are at bringing forth
emotion through very catchy romantic and sexy lyrics! It’s definitely one you
will find yourself singing along to as well.I’m pretty positive that Parmalee just released another hit! It’s worth
checking out!
Roughstock also expects Close Your Eyes to be another big hit for the North Carolina foursome:
"Close Your Eyes"
starts off with vivid lyrics that instantly set the mood: "Well take a
look at what's left in that sunset / Fireflies popping like the Fourth of July,
yeah / You're gonna wanna see every single thing I'm gonna show you
tonight" — familiar, yes, but more detailed than most other songs that
tread the same ground. Throughout, the song's topic of promising a good night
for his girl is laid out in a similarly lyrical fashion, hung nicely on the
hook "might wanna close your eyes for this." Lead singer Matt Thomas
has a subtle vocal delivery with a hint of Dierks Bentley grain, and the
production is tight, with enough electric guitar and drums to give it a pulse,
but enough banjo to keep it country. (And I would be remiss not to mention two
of the underrated talents behind the songwriting: Shane Minor and Trent
Tomlinson. I could easily see this song fitting in on Tomlinson's stellar
debut.)
Parmalee's singles, so far,
suggest a band with a knack for songs that are easygoing enough for radio
playlists, edgy enough to stand out, and lyrically strong enough not to be
instantly forgotten. With "Carolina" and now with "Close Your
Eyes," Parmalee clearly has the potential for a major breakout in 2014.
Here's hoping that "Close Your Eyes" takes considerably less time to
top the charts than its predecessor did.

When I heard that "Close Your Eyes" was going to be the next single, I
kinda jumped for joy because even though the album is chock full of
hits, "Close Your Eyes" is a personal favorite. The song was written by
Trent Tomlinson, Shane Minor and Adam Craig (who fronts a band you need
to check out: Adam Craig Band). "Close Your Eyes" a mid-tempo
love song that hooks you from the six note drum beat introduction. The
lyrics paint the picture of a perfect summer moonlight-and
anticipation-filled night when you are with someone special. The melody
and Matt's vocals are simply spot on perfect: romantic and yearning, in a
sweet, non-salacious way. And then there are these flawless lines: "Just when you thought you've
really seen it all/Well it turns out you don't have to see it all." Can
you say swoon? Feels like....another #1.
Digital Journal reviewer Markos Papadatos had this to say about their new song:
The song "Close Your Eyes" is infectious with stunning instrumentation
and Matt Thomas soars on lead vocals and his band-mates deliver on
harmonies, as always. It has a Luke Bryan ("Drunk on You") meets Blake
Shelton ("Sure Be Cool If You Did") vibe to it. This is the
quintessential tune that country girls would love to have this song sung
to them. I have been a fan of Parmalee's from the very beginning and
have yet to hear anything from them that I do not absolutely love. This
song garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.

On February 11, Parmalee was feted at BMI Nashville with a party celebrating their first Number One single, "Carolina."
Check out a video of Matt Thomas discussing how the song came together:
According to an article in Music Row,
BMI celebrated the team behind North Carolina band Parmalee’s
two-week No. 1 hit “Carolina” Tuesday (Feb. 11) at the company’s offices
in Nashville. Written by Richard Beato and Parmalee’s Scott Thomas, Matt Thomas, Josh McSwain and Barry Knox,
the song earned all five writers their first No. 1 song. It has been a
long journey for the band, but a fulfilling one. In February 2011, the
band performed a final showcase for Stoney Creek Records, after enduring
a near-fatal robbery attempt that severely injured Scott Thomas. “The
label waited for Scott to heal, and we came down to do another full
showcase [before signing Parmalee to a deal]. We are definitely a family
band, and so we found the perfect family for us,” said his brother and
bandmate Matt.
Among those celebrating were BMI’s Jody Williams, Bradley Collins, Sony-ATV’s Tom Luteran, BBR Music Group/Stoney Creek Records’ Benny Brown, Jon Loba, Chris Loss and CarsonJames
and the entire promotions staff. “All No. 1 records are fights,” said
Loba. “This one had a long journey, but represents how much this team
cared about the artist and the song.” The song spent 44 weeks on its
slow journey to the top of the charts, including several weeks at No.
40. “I don’t think anyone has seen a song chart quite like this,” said
James. “We bought real estate at the No. 40 spot. The song fell off the
chart twice and had to be put back on, but our staff was tenacious, and
it paid off.”
The song marked the third No. 1 tune for production company New Voice Entertainment’s Rich Redmond, Kurt Allison, David Fanning, and Tully Kennedy.
Publishers on the songs include Lonely Runer Music, B Knox Music, Slip
Joint Music, Pooskie Music, Boogall Music and Revelry Music.
Avenue Bank’s Ron Cox announced that Avenue Bank would be making a donation to North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
Parmalee's third single off their Stoney Creek debut album, "Feels Like Carolina," is "Close Your Eyes." The catchy, romantic song was penned by Trent Tomlinson, Adam Craig and Shane Minor and is poised to be another radio hit for the band. Take a look and listen to the new lyric video for the song:
